Accessibility

Since its inception, Museum Night Fever has aimed to involve young people in museums. The programme of the event is specifically created by young artists, collectives, youth centres or art school students supervised by the museums. Through these various cartes blanches”, these talents dust off the sometimes rigid image of museum institutions.

This year, Museum Night Fever is even more committed to its inclusive policy. Part of the programme has been to set up an open call to artists from the LGBTQIA+ communities in order to give pride of place to their talents and messages, which are still under-represented in the usual museum programming. Brussels Museums is continuously working towards more inclusive museums and structural change in museum institutions through the OPEN MUSEUM programme.

Museum Night Fever is also improving its information for people with a disability through clearer web signalization and will carry out a full accessibility audit for people with special needs during the evening via the independent organisation Access-i. The recommendations made by the organisation will be used to adapt the event beyond its constraints in the years to come and to propose, if necessary, routes adapted to everyone.

Please note that the accessibility of the museums as currently reported was partly established by handy.brussels in the usual visiting situation or, failing that, by the museum itself for this edition of Museum Night Fever. As mentioned above, the organisation Access-i will also carry out a more precise accessibility audit on the evening of Museum Night Fever for the next edition.

Durability

In order to reduce the ecological impact of a mass event such as Museum Night Fever and to address the issue of carbon emissions in the cultural sector, we are setting up a sustainability charter this year, which will lay the foundations for annual improvements. This work is being carried out in collaboration with EventChange (asbl Pastoo).

Favouring soft mobility for workers and the public, reducing and treating waste appropriately, reviewing the production of goodies in a sustainable manner, adjusting the production of communication media and working with local partners and local businesses for the event are all eco-actions through which we wish to contribute to sustainable development and encourage museums to adopt these practices in their daily lives.
