After this carnival of identities, it’s time for intimacy: textile artist Suzanne Corcessin takes over the still life room with a participatory installation centered on skin and feathers. She invites the public to add their own touch, or rather their own feather, to a collective work echoing the still lifes and silent scenes so characteristic of the 17th century.
Raised in the rural landscapes of western France, Corcessin developed an early sensitivity to nature and critical sense of cultural narratives. Trained at La Cambre in traditional techniques such as weaving, knitting and screen printing, she also apprenticed as a feather worker at Maison Lemarié, a member of Chanel’s prestigious Métiers d’Art.
Her practice took a conceptual turn at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. Immersed in a research-oriented environment, she began to experiment with a more politically engaged methodology, questioning aesthetics as a site of power and cultural negotiation and continuing to blur the boundaries between craft and art.
